The work of the Fire and Rescue Service and the Emergency Medical Service is not possible without the use of an adequate equipment. It is necessary to have an effective, safe and reliably equipment available to achieve the complex objectives in fire fighting, rescue service, environmental protection, emergency medical or the ambulance service. It is the responsibility of the Technical Support and Equipment Department to ensure that.
Therefore the equipment has to be bought and to be checked, maintained and repaired regularly. According to the variety of duties of the Fire and Rescue Service and the Emergency Medical Service the equipment is also very diversified - from a screw wrench to a heavy weight 25to mobile crane.
It is important, that the equipment fits in the operation concepts, satisfies the needs of the users and conforms to the engineer standards and state-of-the-art technology. Therefore a close cooperation with the Operations Department and the Emergency Medical Services Department is absolutely necessary to ensure a fast trouble shooting and a permanent development of the equipment.
So the daily experiences made in during the operations have to be combined with the expert knowledge of all involved persons and a funded market survey to find the best solution - of course a cost effective one. The personnel of the Technical Support and Equipment Department are also on duty as an officer in charge regularly on all levels of command (A-Commander, B-Commander, C-Commander). The positive effect for the daily work is the interlocking to the operation units, so that the used equipment can be assessed in situ.
Furthermore it is necessary to give a special training to the users of a specially equipment. Here gives the staff of the Technical Support and Equipment Department also support in training. E.g. for the wearers of breathing apparatus and radio operators.
Beyond that our staff brings its expert knowledge to national and international bodies to bring the development of fire service equipment forward. So the Fire and Rescue Service and the Emergency Medical Service is represented by personnel of the Technical Support and Equipment Department in different standardisation committees of the German Institute for Standardization (DIN).
The staff is organised in three subdivisions and one staff.
