“Eoseo oseyo - Welcome” was the motto at the Old Town Hall on Friday, October 25, 2024. With these words, Deputy Mayor Dr. Ursula Sautter welcomed a delegation from Gangnam, a district of Seoul, Republic of Korea. The group led by Mayor Cho Sung-myung is visiting Bonn to make initial contacts. The mayor of Gangnam had approached the City of Bonn with the desire for exchange and the establishment of economic and cultural relations with the federal city. The guests from Seoul are particularly interested in the topics of culture, smart city, environment and sustainability. The delegation is led by the head of the Bonn branch of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Consul General Huh Seung-jae.
After Mayor Cho Sung-myung had signed the City of Bonn's guest book, the delegation presented an image film about their district. Gangnam is the cultural and economic center of Seoul. Many large companies are headquartered there. The district is characterized by exquisite boutiques, elegant nightclubs and high-class restaurants. The Seoul Arts Center is home to a design museum and a theater, and the Buddhist Bongeunsa Temple dates back to the 8th century. Around 500,000 people live in the district.
The Department of International Affairs and Global Sustainability presented the international sustainability location Bonn and the city’s international cooperation. Bonn is working towards becoming a climate-neutral city by 2035 and is also a resilience hub of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 initiative of UNDRR, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The Cyber Security Cluster Bonn association presented its activities on cyber security issues.
