The Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development in Bonn (UNSSC) has launched the call for applications for the UN Summer Academy 2022, which will take place from 27 June to 01 July 2022, and not in August like in previous years. The UN Summer Academy remains a flagship program for the UNSSC and has transformed over the past few years into a highly interactive and engaging 5-day virtual program that aims to bring sustainable development actors from multiple sectors and from across the world together to learn from each other, be inspired by action and co-create possible solutions for the 2030 Agenda.

The UN Summer Academy introduces conceptual approaches underpinning the notion of sustainable development, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the Paris Agreement on Climate Change under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. 

The 2022 program will explore sustainable development from a multi-sectoral perspective, focusing on critical themes such as health and well-being, social protection, economic transformation, and climate action. Participants will look at how transformative thought frameworks of systems thinking, futures thinking, and design thinking can address these issues in a complex and volatile context. Alongside these core themes and conceptual approaches, the program will also feature trending sustainable development topics such as innovation for sustainable development and frontier technologies. Experts will highlight the latest developments in these areas and their potential contribution to sustainable development efforts. 

The UN Summer Academy 2021 was exceptionally successful, rated very favorably by the participants.
