Examples of city management projects

Management for the Bonn centers

Since the summer of 2021, many positive experiences have been made in the implementation of center management as part of the “Immediate action program to strengthen our inner cities and centers in NRW”, which have led to the city of Bonn seeking to establish further center management. For example, the city center management for Bonn's city center was established as part of the urban development program, the Bad Godesberg center management with its meeting place as part of the federal program “Zukunftsfähige Innenstädte und Zentren” and the Hardtberg center management as part of the North Rhine-Westphalian program “Zukunftsfähige Innenstädte und Ortszentren”.

Bonn City inner city management

In addition to the major construction measures (Budafok Park, Rheinufer, Brüdergasse, Uni trifft City, subway station Hauptbahnhof), a city center management was also set up as part of the Innere Stadt 2.0 master plan. Since February 2023, two people in the pavilion at Bu-dapester Straße 7 have been the central point of contact for businesses, property owners and citizens in the city center. In addition to the organization of events as part of the above-mentioned construction measures, e.g. for citizen participation or the organization of the disposal fund, two formats in particular have proven to be effective:

  • the round table of owner-managed businesses and
  • the “Real estate ownership in the city” series of events.

The results from these series of events are regularly incorporated into the administration's work.

Center management and meeting place Bad Godesberg

The center management for Bad Godesberg has established itself with two people in a store at Fronhof 10 in the Bad Godesberg pedestrian zone. The “Real estate and retail” network meetings, the organization of the disposition fund and numerous events for the stakeholders in Bad Godesberg are very well received.

Center management Hardtberg

The Hardt-berg center management has been running since June 2024. The focus is on working together with property owners and the business and trade community. Initial support was already provided at the trade show in mid-June.

Minus 1 level in the area of the main train station

The economic development agency invited the private and public owners of the Minus 1 level to exchange views on improving the situation in this important entrance area to the city center. Common problems are cleanliness and security as well as questions of signage and advertising. This fruitful exchange is to be continued in the long term.

Bonn agreement on Sunday shopping

Together with city-marketing bonn e.V., the Economic Development Agency organizes the consultations that lead to an update of the Bonn agreement on open Sundays every three years. Unique in Germany, the business communities and city marketing associations, the churches, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the district craftsmen's association and the retail association agree on the framework conditions for holding open Sundays.

More variety of uses in Bonn’s city center! – 4th Bonn City Conference on October 25th, 2023

The focus was on the increasing diversity of use in Bonn's city center, which was illustrated using concrete examples.

was illustrated using concrete examples. In addition, the changing demands of customers on retail and gastronomy were discussed, as well as the question of how more living space could be achieved in city centers.

There are various starting points for Bonn's city center to respond to this:

  • and increasing cleanliness and safety
  • More green spaces and façade/roof greening and shading options
  • Working with partners to create more special reasons to visit the city center
  • Expand inner-city living
  • Actively communicate attractiveness and accessibility for all means of transportation
  • Create better cycle paths to increase accessibility within the city and to the surrounding area
  • Further strengthen public transport in cooperation with the municipalities in the surrounding area
