Extension Schengen-Visa (Category C).

Overview

Please note: Due to the current situation, personal interviews with the Immigration Office are only possible with an appointment until further notice. We ask for your understanding for this measure.

If you wish to send an inquiry or an application to the Immigration Office Bonn, you can do it primarily by e-mail. We will process your inquiry as soon as possible and contact you by e-mail, letter or telephone.

For telephone inquiries, you can call the service number 0228 77 6000.

If you have a so-called Schengen-Visa (Category C), which allows you to stay in Germany for a visit, business trip or touristic stay, and you would like to stay in Germany beyond the validity period of this visa, we kindly ask you to note the following information:

The current federal regulations for the exemption from the requirement of a residence permit are valid until 30 September 2020. The regulations will not be extended.

This means that, in principle, there is an obligation for the persons concerned to leave the country by 30 September 2020. This also applies to persons who have entered Germany without a visa and are tolerated according to the Schengen visa regulations or who can (still) stay in Germany until 30 September 2020 with a border crossing certificate.

In principle, the extension of a Schengen visa is not possible.

An exception is only possible

  • In case of force majeure or
  • humanitarian reasons and
  • for serious personal reasons.

The holder of the visa must prove, by submitting suitable documents, that it is not possible to leave Germany within the validity period of the Schengen-Visa for one of the above-mentioned reasons.

In addition, a sufficient health insurance and the securing of livelihood without use of public funds (e.g. social assistance) have to be proven.
