City of Bonn in favor of retaining phoenix television channel

The City of Bonn supports the preservation of phoenix. The public television channel has been operated jointly by ARD and ZDF since 1997 - with a unique program that no other public information channel offers in this form.

In a resolution passed on March 20, 2025, the Bonn City Council asked the state government and Bonn's members of the state and federal parliaments to advocate that the phoenix television channel be maintained with its current offering and continue to be based and operate in Bonn. At a time when democracy as a form of government and its representatives, administration and politicians are coming under increasing pressure, the preservation of the phoenix channel is of paramount importance. Phoenix conveys politics directly and up close. Citizens have the opportunity to follow political debates without having to be there in person.

Bonn's Mayor Katja Dörner has already followed the request of the channel's staff council and joined the petition to preserve the phoenix channel.
