Mayor Dörner signs “Call to Action” for sustainable cultural goals

On Monday, August 26, 2024, Mayor Katja Dörner signed a “Call to Action” for sustainable cultural goals of the Eurocities network for the City of Bonn. This makes Bonn one of 46 cities to date that are committed to reducing CO2 consumption and increasing inclusion in the cultural sector.

Mayor Katja Dörner signs the “Call to Action” of the Eurocities network for less CO2 consumption and more inclusion in the cultural sector.

“Art and culture are an important part of creating social awareness for climate protection, sustainability and diversity. I am therefore delighted that we are sending a further signal for sustainable and diverse cultural activities in our city by signing the pledge. As part of the Eurocities network, we are committed, among other things, to broad access to cultural offerings and the promotion of sustainable projects by local institutions and artists, which are the cornerstone of our city's vibrant culture.”

Art and culture stimulate emotions, open up awareness and inspire. They also help to build solidarity, which is a prerequisite for joint social action. However, the cultural sector also consumes large amounts of energy and resources. The aim of the Eurocities network initiative is therefore to initiate improvements in the form of a sustainable and inclusive cultural policy in the signatory cities and to sensitize the public to climate policy issues through appropriate offers. For the city of Bonn, the focus is on dialog and cooperation with the various cultural institutions and local artists, as practiced, for example, in the development of the Sustainable Cultural Strategy for Bonn.

The Call to Action was developed as part of the “Eurocities Culture Forum 2022”. Learn more at  https://eurocities.eu/resources/eurocities-statement-a-more-sustainable-and-inclusive-culture-starts-in-cities/ (opens in a new tab)
