Deutsche Welle (DW) represents Germany in the international media landscape - providing news and information in 32 languages. Germany’s international broadcaster conveys the country as a nation rooted in European culture and as a liberal, democratic constitutional state.
Those interested in obtaining information on Germany and Europe will find a broad spectrum of topical news and background stories as well as a selection of modern German language courses available online under dw.de.
They address especially those who are seen as opinion-leaders in their homeland. In authoritarian states, this applies to those who actively stand up for democracy, civil rights and liberties and progress. DW Akademie provides advanced media training, pursuing the same objective.
Germany’s international broadcaster DW is financed by federal tax revenue. The annual budget for 2012 is €271 million. Peter Limbourg has been Director General since 2013. More than 1,500 employees and just as many freelancers from 60 nations work in our headquarters in Bonn and in our Berlin office, helping to fulfil DW’s statutory mission.
