Dr. Hans Riegel Stiftung

The Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation is continuing the charitable legacy of the former HARIBO co-owner with the aim of supporting young people in shaping the future and providing them with long-term support. The foundation has acquired the office building under construction on Joseph-Beuys-Allee directly next to the UN Campus train station in the Bundesviertel. The property was previously owned by the City of Bonn. The building owner is Bonn-based Ora Projekt GmbH. The office building offers around 3,500 square meters of space. Part of the office space will be used by the Dr. Hans Riegel Foundation and Dr. Hans Riegel-Holding itself, which is scheduled to move in in November 2024. The remaining office space has been rented on a long-term basis by the system catering company apeiron restaurant & retail management GmbH from Bonn, which has its own academy and training rooms. The building will also have a branch of L'Osteria Pizza & Pasta on the first floor. The office complex will also have its own underground parking garage, e-charging management systems and bicycle parking spaces. Overall, the building has been declared DGNB 50 and pre-certified with gold in all criteria. The real estate department of the Bonn Economic Development Agency coordinated the property transaction for the city and supported apeiron in its search for an expansion site in the federal district as part of its corporate support.

KOLL GmbH

The company Koll Steine is managed in the third generation by Helge Koll as owner and managing director and is based on Maarstraße in Bonn. The product portfolio includes slabs, decorative paving, eco-paving, palisades, steps and garden walls. In 2023, natural greenery was planted along the entire street frontages of Maarstraße and Pfaffenweg. Native trees and shrubs were planted. Certified Regio seeds were used for the flowering areas, which are specially tailored to the needs of native insects, birds and small creatures in our region and offer the widest possible range of food. The Bonn Economic Development Agency's project “Climate-friendly business parks in Bonn” was able to provide helpful impetus for this greening measure. For example, project partner Wissenschaftsladen Bonn arranged for a beekeeper to set up three bee colonies on the company premises.

Puppenkönig GmbH

At the end of 2021, the traditional toy store Puppenkönig closed for good after around 110 years. Puppenkönig GmbH took over the listed building from 1913 and breathed new life into it with an innovative usage concept. The keyword is “mixed use”! The upper floors are rented out as offices to a development aid organization. The lower floors are successfully used for a mixture of retail, including an online store, adventure world and café. The Puppenkönig also regularly attracts playful people with events for young and old. The different uses are mutually beneficial. Thanks to this entrepreneurial commitment, around 20 people have found a job in Bonn's city center.

Alexander Jentsch, owner of Puppenkönig GmbH
“I presented the new Puppenkönig at the Bonn Economic Development Agency's City Conference in October 2023, a great format for networking and further developing Bonn's city center!”

Aachener Grundvermögen

Since the 1950s, the people of Bonn have known “their” Hertie and Karstadt department store in Poststrasse, which closed in October 2020. As the landlord, Aachener Grundvermögen has ensured that there will be no long-term vacancy, but that a new future for the building will be developed together with potential users. Peek & Cloppenburg, dm and Aldi continue to provide good retail uses on the lower floors. The upper floors will be used for education and culture in the future: One floor will be used by the University of Bonn for teaching events. Above this, the “BonnLive Kulturstadt” location will be a multifunctional hall that can be used for many cultural events. The City of Bonn's economic development department has supported the project.

“At the first city conference of the Bonn Economic Development Agency in 2020, I already spoke out in favor of making Bonn's city center fit for the future in the long term and creating new attractions in the city center in addition to shopping as the main reason for a visit to the city center. An important lever for securing the future of Bonn's city center is a greater mix of uses - both within individual buildings and throughout the entire city center. After Karstadt terminated our lease, we can now implement this in Poststrasse.”

CIRCULARMED GmbH

CIRCULARMED connects the healthcare sector with sustainability, digitalization, AI, resource conservation and the circular economy on the way to a sustainable healthcare system of tomorrow. The healthcare sector is the fifth largest producer of waste in Germany and, with an annual consumption of 107 million tons of raw materials, a consumer of scarce resources. With a recycling rate of less than 30% and a linear economy, hospitals make a significant contribution to resource consumption. CIRCULARMED is an association of experts who specialize in standardizing waste management in hospitals. Through concept development, the digitalization of all waste processes and the optimization of waste streams, CIRCULARMED strives to promote the efficient and sustainable handling of medical waste and recyclable materials and thus save resources and CO2.  The CIRCULARMED vision: development and implementation as an industry solution for a dual circular economy system in the healthcare sector. The aim is to return resources to the material cycle and thus make a significant contribution to environmental sustainability in the healthcare sector. CIRCULARMED was able to impress with this sustainable vision in the EU-funded funding competition “GrüneGründung.NRW” and was one of the innovation winners of the Green Economy.

TerraSense GmbH

Geophysics and environmental sensor technology - these are the two fields of activity of TerraSense GmbH: engineering and environmental geophysics are used to explore the subsurface without drilling equipment or excavators. This often involves searching for pipes or cavities, for example. In the field of environmental sensor technology, the company monitors environmental parameters in water, soil and air. TerraSense builds customized data infrastructures for its customers. Many different areas of application are served, from data acquisition with a wide variety of sensors to data transmission via WLAN, LoRaWan or mobile radio, through to automated evaluation and control. TerraSense GmbH was able to move into premises in the Innovation and Start-up Center of the Federal City of Bonn immediately after it was founded in October 2022. The Office for Economic Development of the City of Bonn supported and accompanied TerraSense in this process.
