Pension insurance carrier

Employees required to pay German social security contributions contribute automatically to the statutory pension scheme, with the pension contribution levied from their monthly salary.

The German statutory pension insurance scheme (Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund) is a nationwide statutory pension scheme for the Federal Republic of Germany. It is a public corporation.

The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund

  • Handles enquiries and pension claims
  • Finances medical rehabilitation, e.g. after operations and occupational rehabilitation
  • Provides information and advice

Pensions are also paid to foreign workers if they have been employed in a position in Germany where they were required to pay pension insurance. The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund pays around 250,000 pensions to more than 170 countries worldwide. Depending on the country of origin, duration of residency and individual agreement with the relevant employer, it is possible to remain covered by social security, health insurance, and pension insurance in the country of origin.
