The University of Bonn has once again been very successful in the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments. On Thursday evening, it was announced which universities throughout Germany will receive further or new funding. The University of Bonn received approval for all eight clusters of excellence applied for - more than at any other university in Germany in the coming funding period.
Mayor Katja Dörner commented: "I warmly congratulate the University of Bonn on the successful funding of a total of eight Clusters of Excellence. The decision impressively confirms the University's leading scientific position and underlines its importance as a University of Excellence. The University of Bonn shapes our city - it attracts talent, promotes innovation and strengthens Bonn as an attractive, future-oriented location. I am very happy to support the university as it continues on its path in the Universities of Excellence funding line."
Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn has been one of eleven German Universities of Excellence since summer 2019. In 2018, it was the only German university to receive funding approval for six clusters of excellence in the Excellence Strategy (ExStra) of the federal and state governments: This makes it the most successful University of Excellence. In addition to two new cluster initiatives, the existing clusters are submitting continuation applications.
Launched in 2016, the Excellence Strategy is now a permanent funding program jointly supported by the Federal Government and the 16 federal states. The central aim of the Excellence Strategy is to promote top-level research at German universities.
