Successful Bonn Climate Prize to be continued

The City of Bonn and Stadtwerke Bonn will continue to award the Bonn Climate Prize in the coming years, recognizing community projects that contribute to climate neutrality. The Committee for the Environment, Climate and Local Agenda approved the continuation of the annual competition until 2028 at its meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025.

"With the Bonn Climate Prize, we honor outstanding projects and make them known throughout the city. The competition brings people and initiatives together and creates new collaborations," says Mayor Katja Dörner. "The award winners have become active ambassadors for climate protection in Bonn. I am very pleased that we will be able to continue the successful model of the Bonn Climate Prize in the coming years and am already looking forward to the next applications."

The annual Bonn Climate Prize puts the spotlight on those who are already committed to climate protection in Bonn in their free time or professionally, thus contributing to Bonn's goal of climate neutrality by 2035. The Bonn Climate Prize focuses on group projects that contribute directly or indirectly to the reduction of greenhouse gases in Bonn. Every year, the city and the municipal utilities award 10,000 euros in prize money.

"Community commitment to climate protection is also an expression of the all-important social cohesion. This needs and deserves visibility and appreciation, which is why SWB Energie und Wasser continues to participate in the Climate Prize. We are thus focusing on environmental initiatives from Bonn for Bonn, true to our motto 'We for here'," affirms Marco Westphal, Managing Director of SWB Energie und Wasser.

There have been three editions of the Bonn Climate Prize so far: in 2022/2023, the first prize went to the Vilich-Müldorf Citizens' Association for their innovative "Climate Day and Climate Pot" project. The following year, the Bonn Leihbar won with its concept for the communal and therefore sustainable use of everyday objects. In the most recent 2024/2025 edition, VEMO Logistik GmbH - a local parcel delivery company that relies on climate-friendly transport solutions using bicycle logistics - won over the jury.
