A varied program is on offer: live music, creative hands-on activities, games for children and adults and the opportunity to talk to committed people from the district.
A new place for climate protection, community and good ideas
Under the motto "Arrive together!", the "MEDING:HOME" participatory center introduces itself - a space for neighbourly cooperation and joint projects. Ideas and concrete steps for climate-friendly living in the district are developed here. It is run by the Bonn Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Learning (BIM), which has been commissioned to coordinate the Medinghoven climate district.
In recent weeks, the store has been creatively renovated by an art collective. Children from Medinghoven elementary school have been actively involved in the refurbishment.
Mayor Katja Dörner: "I am convinced that Medinghoven is full of potential! The local people themselves know best what a climate-friendly Medinghoven worth living in could look like. That's why it's so important that they help shape the change together as a neighborhood. The climate district creates the space for this - it strengthens cohesion and offers concrete support."
Saman Haddad from BIM says "We are looking forward to finally getting started and celebrating the launch of MEDING:HOME together with the neighborhood - arriving together!"
Climate districts are part of Bonn's 2035 climate plan
In addition to Medinghoven, there are three other climate districts in Bonn: in Beuel-Mitte, in Godesberg-Nord and in Bonn-Zentrum. The climate districts are a central component of Bonn's Climate Plan 2035. The city of Bonn is relying on strong citizen participation and concrete local measures to achieve its climate targets. Recommendations from the "Bonn4Future - Wir fürs Klima" (Bonn4Future - We for the climate) participatory process have also been incorporated into the design of the climate districts. One of the recommendations was to enable Bonn residents to "get started on their own doorstep".
