“Our Integration Council is a reflection of what democracy can achieve: We are a forum for exchange, for solutions and for cooperation. Together, we are committed to ensuring that no one is excluded and that everyone finds a place in this society,” said Binnaz Öztoprak, Chairwoman of the Integration Council.
The fact that more than 10,000 people demonstrated for democracy, human rights and diversity in Bonn ten days ago was a strong signal for a diverse and vibrant democracy, said Mayor Katja Dörner. Nevertheless, in her welcoming address, she expressed her wish that the topics of integration, migration and flight would be discussed less heatedly and in a more pointed manner throughout Germany. “This is essential for the cities and municipalities in which social cohesion must be developed and maintained,” emphasized the Mayor.
In addition to representatives from politics and administration, around 90 guests from organizations, institutions, religious communities and associations that deal with migration and integration on a full-time or voluntary basis attended the event. By inviting them to the reception, the Mayor and the Chairwoman of the Integration Council thanked them for their special commitment to participation and equality in Bonn.
