As Germany's second political center, UN city and city of the Basic Law, Bonn stands for democratic values, diversity and a constructive culture of discussion. In recent months, Platform X has increasingly become a place where disinformation, hate speech and undemocratic tendencies are on the rise. This development is contrary to the fundamental values that Bonn stands for. 

The City of Bonn continues to focus on transparent and open communication with its citizens. Information and news are provided via the city's website  www.bonn.de, the other social networks Mastodon, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube as well as established communication channels such as newsletters and press releases ( www.bonn.de/newsletter), to which citizens can subscribe by email. 

With this step, the City of Bonn is joining other institutions and organizations that have withdrawn or are withdrawing from the platform out of a sense of responsibility for a respectful and fact-based debate.
