The focus of the visit was on getting to know each other. IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) - Organics International is the global voice of the organic sector. Ravi Prasad has headed the organization since January 2024, succeeding Marco Schlüter, who led the organization on an interim basis. Previously, Ravi Prasad has worked for various international organizations such as Oxfam, UNICEF, ActionAid International, Flo-Cert and Transparency International in different countries around the globe.

Mayor Katja Dörner and Ravi Prasad spoke about the situation of international non-governmental organizations in Bonn and the international location. Ravi Prasad had words of praise for the support provided by the City of Bonn's Foreigners Office for foreign employees: “This is the perfect support for us in all visa matters and underlines the cosmopolitan nature of the federal city.” During the meeting, they also discussed possible collaborations between the city of Bonn and IFOAM - Organics International.

“It is good that IFOAM - Organics International still has its headquarters in Bonn and is now well positioned with Ravi Prasad as Managing Director,” said Mayor Katja Dörner. “Organic farming makes a significant contribution to preserving natural resources such as soil and biodiversity. This is increasingly important in times of climate change. IFOAM - Organics International has been promoting organic farming for over 50 years. In the early days, this was an absolute niche. They have contributed to the fact that the principles of organic agriculture are now known worldwide and have also been taken up by global organizations, such as the United Nations, as a concept for sustainable agriculture. In Bonn, as part of our commitment as an organic city, we are committed to ensuring that products from organic agriculture are in greater demand by municipal institutions and people in Bonn and that producers and consumers can come together more easily. I am therefore looking forward to further cooperation with IFOAM - Organics International,” continued the Mayor.

IFOAM - Organics International supports governments and the entire value chain in the transition to organic farming and works to raise awareness of the sustainable production and consumption of agricultural products. The organization advocates for agroecological farming methods and sustainable development at the international level, including at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the UN Climate Change Office and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNFCCC and UNCCD, both based in Bonn) and the World Food Programme (WFP).

“IFOAM - Organics International is a global network that brings together all actors in the organic value chain and is at the intersection of food security, climate change and nutrition. Working with members around the world is extremely rewarding,” said Ravi Prasad about his new role. “I love working in Bonn and this is my second time in this beautiful city, which I have been visiting regularly since 2000. It is a great place to work and provides an ideal environment for civil society organizations that have their offices here. The support from the city is a great source of strength and stability for NGOs. In addition, the short distances to other partner organizations are a great advantage for our work,” said Ravi Prasad, who also signed the guest book of the city of Bonn during his visit.
