2G rule applies at Bonn Christmas market

The 2G rule (tested, recovered) will apply at the Bonn Christmas Market. The City of Bonn published a corresponding general decree on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, which will come into force on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. At the same time, at least one medical mask must be worn during the Christmas market in the city center area.

With these regulations, the city is taking into account the increasing number of infections. It wants to make the Christmas market and visits to the pedestrian zone during Advent as safe as possible for visitors. The responsible NRW ministry has approved both regulations. This means that only vaccinated and recovered visitors will be allowed to attend the Christmas market. However, the 2G rule does not apply to passers-by who merely cross the Christmas market area.

Exceptions to the 2G rule apply to children up to the age of twelve, as they are regularly PCR-tested in their daycare centers and schools (so-called lollipop test). Adolescents from 12 to 18 years of age who have neither recovered nor been vaccinated require a test no more than 24 hours old to participate in the Christmas market. Persons who cannot be vaccinated - for example, for medical reasons - also require appropriate proof and a negative test result.

Random checks

As the organizer of the Christmas market, the City of Bonn will carry out random checks to ensure compliance with the 2G rule.  Four employees of the city's public order service and two employees of the GABI police station will carry out daily checks; in addition, targeted spot checks with up to ten employees are planned.

If people are found without proof of 2G, they will be asked to leave the market. If it is apparent to the municipal employees that this person is not complying with this request, they will threaten appropriate sanctions and also initiate fine proceedings. A fine of 150 euros will be imposed.
