Corona: Bundeswehr again support health department

As of November 24, 2021, the Bundeswehr ise once again supporting the Bonn Health Department in the containment of the Corona pandemic.

The request for assistance, which the city had submitted to the Bundeswehr via the Cologne district government, was approved. The city is very grateful to the Bundeswehr for the assistance. Currently, 15 soldiers are working in the corona team, for example in contact tracing and data entry. Starting next week, another five soldiers will join the team. Many of the Bundeswehr members had already been deployed in Bonn between November 2020 and June 2021.

Corona: Currently 1,444 people in Bonn are infected

The personnel support by the German Armed Forces is urgently needed due to the sharp increase in infections. Currently, 1,444 people are infected with coronavirus in Bonn (status of laboratory-confirmed cases as of Thursday, November 25). In the past seven days, 932 new infections have been reported to the health department. The incidence value per 100,000 inhabitants is 281.9.

The significant jump in the 7-day incidence was due to the fact that, for technical reasons, no case figures could be transmitted to the NRW State Center for Health during the night of November 23 to 24, and figures for two days were reported for November 25. New infections occur in all areas of social life; new infections among school-age children continue to increase.

Currently, there is one outbreak in one hospital with three related positives and three outbreaks in another hospital with five, four, and three related cases, respectively. In addition, the health department is currently registering outbreaks with at least three contiguous cases in seven schools and three daycare centers. Currently, 1,609 people are in quarantine. 277 people in Bonn have died so far in connection with the coronavirus.

As of Thursday morning, November 25, 53 people from Bonn and the surrounding area who have contracted Covid-19 were in Bonn hospitals. 32 people are being cared for in normal wards, 21 are in intensive care units, 15 of whom require ventilation.

Vaccination campaign

The vaccination figures show that the vaccination campaign in Bonn has picked up speed again. Within one week - between November 16 and 23 - a total of 24,271 vaccinations were carried out in Bonn (2,666 first, 5,976 second and 15,629 booster vaccinations). Thus, there have been a total of 267,006 first, 264,488 second and 28,955 booster vaccinations in Bonn to date.

In the meantime, the city has expanded its vaccination center in the Stadthaus both spatially and temporally. There are now seven immunization lines, open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, vaccination campaigns are held every Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Bonn Information Center, Windeckstraße 1 (Advent vaccination), and from December 1, vaccinations will be held weekly on Wednesdays at Hardtberg Town Hall, Villemombler Straße 1, from 12 to 6 p.m.

Weekly balance of the Christmas market controls

Meanwhile, after a week of Christmas market, the city draws a positive balance with regard to compliance with the 2G rule (vaccinated, recovered). The population accepts this requirement very well and reacts - except for a few individual cases - insightfully and even gratefully to the necessary random checks.

For the checks, a minimum of one double patrol each from the city order service and the GABI police station are deployed daily. Individual focus checks with up to ten employees deployed over the course of a day also take place time and again. Since the opening of the Christmas market, the city police and the GABI police have approached 1,576 visitors and asked them for proof of 2G and their personal details. Of these, only 15 people could not prove that they were immunized (vaccinated or recovered). Ten of them were expelled and had to leave the Christmas market grounds. In the case of five people, this was not enough, because they reacted to the controls in an uncooperative manner. They now expect a fine of 150 euros each.

This means that the rate of people checked without proof of 2G is 0.95 percent. In the city's view, this low figure shows how prudently citizens deal with this restriction and also observe it for their own safety. The city, as the organizer, would like to express its gratitude for this.

The red wristbands offered as part of the controls are well received. Many visitors have them put on so that proof of 2G can be provided more easily in the event of a further check. The fact that all market vendors and showmen now ask their customers for the 2G proof and offer and put on the red wristbands additionally supports the controls.

A different picture emerges from the checks on compulsory masks in the city center. So far, about 4,000 people have had to be admonished and stopped from wearing the mask. Only four people did not comply even after being warned by the city's public order service and the GABI police station. They will be fined 150 euros each.
