green energy against poverty e.V.

green energy against poverty (in short: greenap) is a voluntary development funding organisation that works against global poverty and climate change in an integrated approach. The key to this are renewable energies, such as solar power and biogas, and cooperation with local project partners at grass root level in the South. For example, in off-grid villages of India the omni-present and hazardous kerosene lamps are replaced by solar lamps. Charging stations with solar panels ensure maintenance. Children in needy schools of Calcutta receive solar study lights for their homework serving as an incentive for education, too. The aim is not only better lighting, but new development perspectives for people - by providing access to renewable energies. By employing an approach based on corporate societies, innovative finance mechanisms, empowerment and strengthening of self help capacities, the projects by greenap are decentralized and sustainable.
