Commitment to the middle class

Small and medium-sized enterprises account for around 99% of all businesses in Bonn. To ensure that the elementary basis of the economic structure remains strong and dynamic, the Economic Development Office supports this target group with a wide range of services for companies and start-ups. In this context, the Service Center Economy is the first point of contact for all questions regarding business start-ups, company development or relocation within the city administration. In 2020, the team provided support for a total of 229 start-up projects and assisted 656 companies interested in relocating and resident companies with their projects. The number of target group- or industry-specific support projects and events was also recorded, which, with 178 individual measures, was also an essential component of the work. A total of 1,063 issues and projects were dealt with in the traditional areas of activity, and projects and events were initiated and organized.
Since the beginning of the Corona crisis, the team has additionally answered all questions regarding government aid programs and support services for trades and freelancers, and provided information on the applicable general rulings for trade and commerce. In the period from March to December 2020, more than 900 companies and self-employed persons have sought advice on this.

One industry focus is on knowledge-intensive services. Advice on financing and subsidies

Company networks

Economic development networks the business community, be it larger companies (Town Hall Business Roundtable), the business community as a whole (Bonn Business Talks), specific industries (Producing Companies Discussion Group, Cybersecurity, Information and Communications Technology, Health, Geoinformation Industry) or in the industrial parks (Industrial Park Talks).

Unfortunately, due to Corona, almost all face-to-face events had to be cancelled. Many events have been switched to purely digital or hybrid formats. We very much hope to be able to offer a more diverse range of events again in 2022, also in presence.

Bonn Business Talks

In 1997, the city of Bonn invited leading representatives from business, science, politics and administration to an open-air reception in the courtyards of the Old City Hall for the first time. Since then, the event has grown steadily and has been held on the forecourt of the Bonn Opera House for many years with an average of 1,300 guests. In 2021, the Business Talks unfortunately had to be canceled for the second year in a row. Next year, the intention is to hold the business talks again in the usual form.
