Promotion of employment

The labor market in the region has changed as a result of the pandemic. Employees in the hospitality and leisure industry and in retail were hit particularly hard. The instrument of short-time work proved to be a stabilizing factor, allowing the employment situation to remain comparatively stable overall. Many companies, organizations and administrations used the crisis as an opportunity to modernize their structures. Digitization experienced a surge in development in many areas. In this context, the corresponding consulting and support services offered by the regional agency are increasingly in demand, as is advice on short-time work and employee transfer. Almost all event formats could be continued in digital form.

The shortage of skilled workers and rising long-term unemployment continue to be the key challenges facing Bonn's labor market. Forward-looking human resources policies and the active design of organizational and work processes were embraced with commitment. In-company qualification and further training are gaining strongly in importance and are developing into central topics of securing skilled labor in many areas.

Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Regional Agency

The Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Regional Agency represents the objectives and funding instruments of the NRW state labor market policy and the European Social Fund, in the new funding phase 2021ff. As a transfer office between the EU, NRW and regional interests, the Regional Agency networks the economic and labor market policy actors in order to launch sustainable projects to strengthen the regional labor market. The focus here is on the topics of "training and continuing education," "securing skilled workers," and "digitization.

Alliance for skilled workers Bonn/Rhein-Sieg

Since 2012, this regional network has been pooling expertise in the area of securing skilled labor. Under the leadership of the Bonn/Rhine-Sieg Regional Agency, the region's key labor market players have come together to develop and implement binding responses to the region's labor market challenges.

Companies and employees

Strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and supporting the further training of employees are fundamental cornerstones of labor market policy. In this respect, the regional agency advises on the funding offers of the state and the federal government. This creates innovative and competitive companies and competent and flexible teams. In 2020, a total of 1,162 employees benefited from an NRW education voucher in the region. In 2020, 40 companies were able to actively take advantage of the NRW potential consulting service and the "unternehmensWert:Mensch" and "unternehmensWert:Mensch PLUS" funding programs.

Youth and career

The NRW training program provided professional support for young people on their way to training and, at the same time, financial subsidies to companies for additional training places - with 154 places available since 2018. Part-time training is a good start to working life for young people with family responsibilities, for example. The NRW program "Part-time vocational training - accompany entry - open perspectives" (TEP) supports this. The regional agency coordinates the programs, provides technical support and ensures the results-oriented networking of all stakeholders.

Target group promotion

Since January 2021, the former counseling centers for the unemployed have been an important point of contact for the unemployed - and people threatened by unemployment - as the new "Counseling Centers for Work". The independent institution in the Bonn-Tannenbusch district now has the additional task of providing advice and support to precariously employed people as well as people threatened by exploitation. Particularly during the pandemic, the social divide has also widened in the labor market, and the counseling center is very much in demand. In many cases, it makes an active contribution to combating poverty.
